Drought & Wet Weather Don't Mix
After a spell of rain for a few days, the sky cleared, with bursts of sunshine peeping through the clouds to brighten up the otherwise dull, grayish and gloomy days. The rain brought smiles to the farmers and hope for the dam to be filled up.
While there were joys, there were also some miseries. Drought dried up and shrank the ground, causing movement in some houses foundation and bringing crack in the walls. Heavy rain did not help either.
Just outside my office, 2 days ago, there were water seeping out through the driveway. A plumber was called to look into the leak. It took him 2 days to find the source of the leak, working in the rain with an expert to pin point the leak using some special listening devices.
This morning they cut up part of the driveway over where the leak was pinpointed and they missed it by half a metre. The plumber was hot under the collar having to dig underneath the concrete to get to the leak. As he dig, water kept filling up the hole and he was swearing his head off. By the time he reached the leak, he was totally puff out.
The drought and the wet weather had caused the pipe to move and it cracked at the weakest point. It is going to cost my boss an arm and a leg to have the leak fixed, the hole filled up and driveway reconcreted.
BTW, this month of June is going to be a very busy month. Why? Nephew getting married, BIL from M'sia will be here tonight for the wedding this weekend. He will stay with us for 2 weeks. In between my brother from USA will be dropping in with his son for a week. He is bringing his son to meet his Aussie cousins, whom he has never met before. It will interesting!
