A 1000 Steps

I puffed, I huffed. My heart was beating furiously. Blood was rushing into my brains, my legs were getting weaker. I am puffing and cover with sweat.

I woke up the Saturday Morning and decided I go for a walk in Fern Tree Gully National Park. The Park is at the foothill of the Dandenong Ranges. The last time I was there was in January this year. The Park has a walk called Kokoda Track Memorial Walk. It is a 2.5 km walk uphill with 1000 steps. The walk with steps was constructed in memorial and appreciation of the soldiers who fought on the Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea in 1942.

It took us an hour to get to the top and half an hour down. I have to stop 4 times on the way up and realized how unfit I was. It is time to start getting fit. The walk is slow because of slippery pathways and track. In summer the track is better and easier to walk. It is also cooling because of the tree canopy over the walking track.

The Walk

I do get to meet many people doing the walk. There are some running up & down a few times as if there were on a mission and have something to prove. Some parents bring their kids for the walk. It is so nice to see kids away from their computer games and out in the open with nature, breathing fresh air and enjoying the green forest.

The View

I may go for another round this weekend if weather permitting. Yes, I am a sucker for punishment.
