Ah Poh - My Other Sister
Ah Poh came into our lives about 40 years ago. She came into our lives out of unfortunate circumstances through my Aunt. Though my Aunt is a gambling addict, she does have some good streak in her heart. Ah Poh’s family was facing financial difficulty and her father was sick and dying. Unable to cope Ah Poh’s Mum approached my Aunt for help. She asked if she could take Ah Poh in for a while until things smooth out. My Aunt, herself was never always at home, could not help but yet she could not say no at a time like this. She reached out to my Mum. Mum, as usual, with kindness in her heart agreed to take in Ah Poh under our roof.
In the short time, we all fell in love Ah Poh. She is a sweet, quiet unassuming girl. Whatever little we have, we shared with her, she is always thankful and never complaining. Mum loved her as her own daughter. She loved my Mum in returned. In the few months with us we were one big happy family.
One fine day, out of the blue, Ah Poh’s Mum and my Aunty came. They came to take Ah Poh away. Ah Poh’s father passed away after a long battle with illness. That day, we knew we will never see Ah Poh again. Ah Poh did not want to leave. Her Mum was dragging her to the car. Ah Poh was crying. It was heart wrenching to see her crying. They were tears of sadness. Mum was sad. It was like taking a daughter away from her.
As the car pull away, we stood quietly crying. It was painful to see her go.
Today Mum still speaks fondly of her. We all wonder now and then, how she is getting on with her life. I am sure just as Mum prayed daily for all for us, she too, would have prayed for Ah Poh.
Today Ah Poh will be as old as me and I wish her all the happiness and joy she deserved. Through your unfortunate circumstances, you bought joy and happiness to us and to my Mum especially. You left us with a lasting impression of you which we cherished. God bless you for coming into our life.
