Another Year Has Gone By

Today my blog is one year old. Not bad, eh, especially for a man of few words. My wife did commented when I started this blog whether this blog will be a flash in the pan especially I keep so much to myself and do not say much. Well, I did 253 posting excluding this one and I think it is not bad. Off course, there are still room for improvement and a few ideas did got tossed around to make it interesting. Judging from the traffic I am happy with the way it is, just a few good faithful readers and no spam messages.
I want to thank from the bottom of my heart to those still faithfully pop in now and then.
Thank You.
BTW, today I am one year older, too. I am not doing much tonight and if it does not rain this evening, maybe I will go and watch Spider Man 3. I cannot help but love all those Marvel Comic Heroes.

The Rain, The Rain

Yesterday Morning before the Rain

Yes, the rain had finally come. But it is not enough to fill the dam because the grounds are hard and dry and it will be a while before there are runoff into the dam. It be will enough at the moment for the farmers to plant for the winter crop and draw water from the river.

Water Everywhere

Hopefully there are more rain to come otherwise by July or August we will be in Stage 4 water rationing. Guess we need to "mandi kerbau" to save water and plenty of the wife's perfume to smell nice!

It is driving me crazy

Last Monday on the way to work, I heard a song on the radio. It is a love song had a nice catchy tune and had me humming along with it. Morever it was co-sung by one of my favourite singer, Willie Nelson with Julio Iglesias.
I cannot get this tune off my head and it is driving me crazy. So I thought I will at least try to learn to sing this song!
Browsing the web and searching the net for lyrics and chords yield no result. It is so frustration. All I can remember the first 2 words "Perhap Love" and the ending with "memories"something, something.
I hate it when I cannot remember more of it.
Yeah, stop reminding me I am getting old! Ok!

Another Wedding Party

Yesterday morning my wife and I attended a wedding at St. Augustine Church in the city at 9.15am. It was a low key wedding with a handful of guest.

We were privileged to be invited. The bride is the daughter of my wife's ex-boss in Malaysia. My wife was the secretary to him. When his daughter came over to study in Melbourne, we were an informal guardian to her. Over the years, she is like a daughter to us.

The church is a small Catholic church that seems out of place between sky scrapers.

After the service we had a photograph session before we headed to lunch at Quad Quattro. It was a wonderful lunch.

The wedding and lunch lasted the whole day. We left the house at 8.15am and got home at 5.15pm.

A Self Portrait

This is a self portrait of me taken yesterday. It is alway hard to get me dressed up formally and I hate to wear a tie. The only time you catch me in a tie is when I have to attend an interview, a wedding, a funeral or an important function. The picture tell how uncomfortable I am in a tie, especially if it is 7.30 am in the morning. I was getting ready to attend a wedding the same morning in the city at 9.15am.
Give me back my tee shirt and jean, please!

One Autumn Day

Last Friday as I about to leave for work, it rained for a short spell. Then the clouds parted and a ray of sunshine peeped through the clouds. Everything I looked at was in a light yellow like looking through a pair of sunglasses.

Miss Saigon

Did I tell you we went to see Miss Saigon? This was planned last year. Tickets were bought somewhere before Christmas. Guess there were some Kiasu among us. My good wife included me in without asking me if I was interested. It was hard to say “No” once she agreed with her friends and they bought the tickets. It was not cheap, A$100 per person.

Last Sunday was the show and we initially wanted to take the Choo Choo train into the city since the fare was $2.50 return on Sundays. But the sky opened up in the morning and the afternoon was gloomy, we decided to drive into the city.

The city traffic was choke with cars at 4pm. It was very unusual and we were so afraid we will be late for the show. Rather than looking for a public car park, we park our car in a private car park for $10 and arrive at the Majesty's Theatre with about 5 minutes to spare. Not bad, eh!

Miss Saigon is a modern adaptation of Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her Caucasian lover. The setting of the plot is relocated to the 1970's Saigon during the Vietnam War, and Madame Butterfly's American Lieutenant and Japanese geisha coupling is replaced by a romance between an American GI and a Vietnamese bar girl.

The show's inspiration was a photograph, inadvertently found by Schönberg in a magazine. The photo showed a Vietnamese mother leaving her child at a departure gate at Tan Son Nhat Airport to board a plane headed for the United States of America where her father, an ex-GI, would be in a position to provide a much better life for the child. Schönberg considered this mother's actions for her child to be "The Ultimate Sacrifice," an idea central to the plot of Miss Saigon.

The story line was so predictable. Musically I did not enjoy the music and song; it was hard to describe it. It was just I could not walk away with a tune lingering in my head like other musical from Cats, Phantom of the Opera or Fiddler on the roof. Other then that is was just OK to me. I guess I am hard to please and I do not like sad endings. Ha, ha, ha. Sob, Sob Sob.

The show lasted about 2½ hours with a 15 minutes break. By the time we got home it was 8.30pm. A quick dinner and off to bed.
